Grandview Wedding | Bao + Kato

I had met Bao and Kato this past February before allll the things went down. It was a cold winter day and I just remember seeing Bao walk into Philz for the first time and just absolutely feeling instant warmth from her bubbly personality and big smile, along with Kato following shortly behind her, tall, polite, and quiet – I could definitely sense that this was an opposites-attract-type-situation.

About Bao + Kato

Bao and Kato had initially met through mutual friends during their time at San Jose state. They were friends for a short period of time before they started having feelings for each other and dating; fast forward 6 years later, and here they are getting married!

A small detail that I love about Bao and Kato’s story is from their proposal. Kato had purchased a camera for Bao to use and have fun with, and thought it’d be a great idea to take some photos at Kirby Cove. Unfortunately for Kato, that day turned out to be super cold, and so when they set up the camera on a tripod to film the proposal, the early parts of the footage showed Bao looking increasingly grumpy from the cold weather. Luckily, all of that didn’t matter once Kato got down on one knee and presented Bao with a small scroll of paper with the words, “Will you marry me?” For anyone that knows Bao and Kato’s story knows that Kato travels often for work and would write Bao letters every time he left. This small, but sweet gesture is one of the many reasons why Bao and Kato are such a wonderful couple.

The Wedding

Fast forward to August 8th, 2020. With everything that happened with COVID this year, Bao and Kato made the difficult decision to cancel their wedding. It wasn’t what they had planned but Bao didn’t care. All she wanted to do was marry Kato. And I have to say, sometimes things just work out for the best! It was a hot summer day, perfect for a Grandview wedding. They got married in front of the family and friends – a small affair of less than 20 people. Their vows to each other were packed with Star Wars references and it couldn’t be more adorkable.

After the ceremony, we decided to take a walk around Grandview where I captured a few photos of them. As a photographer, one of the best things you can photograph is the way the groom looks at the bride. Even though Kato didn’t say it, I could feel the love he felt for Bao – that pure, loving, you’re-most-beautiful-person-I’ve-ever-seen kind of look. It gave me all the feels. Hope you enjoy these photos!

Congratulations this amazing couple! Bao and Kato, can’t wait to see your love grow to infinity and beyond! Cheers!
